Dear Friends,
As an educator and a parent of a daughter with dyslexia, I am acutely aware of the challenges children with reading difficulties face in school. Many children struggle in silence never reaching their true potential, while teachers and parents simply lack access to useful research and training.
In 2006, I decided as President of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) - Georgia Branch to create an annual 5K Run/Walk. My wonderful co-coordinator Angel Murr and I, armed with the mutual goal to increase dyslexia awareness, planned and successfully executed the first annual Dyslexia Dash - IDA 5K in Atlanta, Georgia. Angel, also the parent of children with dyslexia, is dedicated to early identification and intervention on behalf of children struggling to learn to read.
Following the success of the inaugural Dyslexia Dash in Atlanta, other like-minded parents and professionals are joining us in our effort to increase awareness and funding for IDA. The funds raised from the Dash are set aside to provide seminars, support groups, and referral and advocacy services.
Thank you for becoming involved in the Dyslexia Dash - IDA 5K. Without the support of our participants, sponsors, and volunteers, these exciting events would not be possible. Together we can demystify reading difficulties, spread knowledge, and encourage change.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Hasser
Race Founder & Past-President International Dyslexia Association of Georgia
